I have a laptop running XP home and every time I boot it, it runs chkdsk
which is taking a couple of hours. It reports segments are unreadable. Is
there anyway to stop this happening? If I hit escape prior to the chkdsk it

Since Dell does not ship the XP operating system anmore, how can I download a
copy?  Currently on XP SP2.  May have to reload the system due to downloading
file issues.

I have this user on my PC (no admin right and don't want him too) who
has 2 games installed and the only way for him to play these 2 games
(Diablo-2 and Empire Earth) is to be an admin.
I used to give him admin rights but I don't trust him.

When my computer turns off I hear beeps and bumps that seem to be telling me
something is warning or alarming me that something is being terminated.  How
can I find out what is going on when I turn off the computer?

after a virus infection those files are missed on my pc:  framdyn.dll
,services.exe
and there are error messages when i swithc  it on. Can someone help me?

Up until a couple of days ago, five icons appeared in my system notification area at Windows startup, representing five programs I set to start with Windows:
Zone Alarm
Spy Sweeper
Norton Ghost

I can ping google, yahoo, etc.  I can not bring my browsers up, IE or
Netscape.  Sometimes when my computer boots up I can not even see my network
icons.
However in safe mode with networking everything works fine.  I ran netsh int

recently ran system restore to the day before. took 3 minutes to finally
restart, went to f8 screen and stopped there, i tried all options on screen
and all computer does is restart back to f8 screen again. what can i do?

Every start-up, I recieve a Security Accounts Manager error: handle is not
valid. Error 0xc0000008, from Issas.exe. Working on Windows XP, SP2, standard
layout. The problem with this error is it disallows the starting of Windows
and then says it'll start in Safe Mode, nope, won't ...

Whenever I try to do a System Restore, I get the following message:
"Your computer cannot be restored to:
  (checkpoint time and name)
No changes have been made to your computer.

How can I change the date modified of entries in My Documents/Windows
Explorer?
