I'm trying to burn a movie off of Windows Movie Maker onto a DVD, and I keep
getting the message that I need to insert a writable disc, which I have
already done.  I ran a diagnostic, and the DVD drive failed all of the tests,

When I open the properties window of an icon on the desktop and create
a shortcut key, it works fine as long as the icon is on the desktop.
If the icon is in any other folder, the shortcut key appears to be
created ok, but no longer functions at all.

I was surfing the web when i suddenly became laden down with spyware. my
background changed to a blue screen that said windows found spyware. so no
matter what i've done i cant change it. It wont even let me scroll through my

My son's PC has died, I re-built it earlier this year and it was fine until
this week. After initial bios screen it reports disk read error. Have:
1. Checked in bios; all looks ok, disk is being recognised.
2. Have run chkdsk /r; it reported that it had repaired the disk.

Is there a shortcut for disconnect the modem?
It takes several touchpad finger movements that seem to me annoying
enough to have provoked a shortcut, but I don't know what it might be.

Ok i had to reformat my computer due to a Virus. Well, i reinstalled windows
after that, and forgot to activate it and never got to it. The 30 days
passed, so i put in the key that is on my system. Well, it never worked, said
it was incorect.

This is REALLY creepy. I am looking at a file [let's say "alarm.exe"] and
"alarm" does not appear on Windows XP Pro search function. How can this be
corrected so ALL instances of alarm.exe appear?

I run Windows XP Professional.  For no reason a while back the
wallpaper turned into a huge message saying "Windows Error - System has
detected spyware activity.  Some system functions are blocked out."
I've tried all my heavy duty anti-spyware, as the message suggests, but

When starting my PC, the Log On to windows box appears asking for the
Administrator Password.
When entered another box appears with the message "Unable to log you on

Had a PC built a couple years back, died last week.  I had XP Pro on it.  
Bought a Dell and was told to buy it with XP Home and use my XP Pro disc to
upgrade.  I put the disc in a it says it can't upgrade because the Home
version is newer.  I need Pro to network.  What to do?  ...
