My son is looking for a new computer and almost all of them seem to come
with Vista, which he really doesn't want yet. Has anyone run into any
problems hooking up a Vista computer to a network with XP computers?

I have a 20gb hd running XP pro unknown make and has the jumper settings set
to master and a 15gb samsung hd set to slave when I boot up the slave hd does
not show up in My Computer but it does in device manager and tells me it is
working ok

Why do I have to press start on my printer each time I need to print

My PC failed to boot even after a repair of windows. I have installed a new
disk and reinstalled XP on to the new disk.
The new administrator account however cannot access the data under the
'Documents and settings\<old_admin_user>' folder on the old disk.

My 3 yr old DELL Dimension 8300 worked fine until a few days ago: I suddently
lost the sound. DxDiag shows "no sound card", but under Control Panel -
Devices - Properties the sound card SB Live! Series shows up as installed and

PC is an HP Windows XP media Center.
Hard drive has a small FAT32 Recovery partition in P1.  Partition 2 shows as C: with XP.
I had to do an HP Recovery because of some file/folder permission issues and other update caused problems.
First HP Recovery seemed to go well...

Took RAM out of computer and turned it on. Heard some beeps. Trurned computer

My taskbar has suddenly disappeared. When I minimize programs, they vanish
into thin air, but can still be accessed through the task manager. I can open

I'm getting this error on power up.  I moved the hard drive to another
laptop and the error followed.  That rules out bad memory.  I believe

I have some JPG pictures in a folder.
I resized some of them using the Image/Attributes/Resize options in Windows
Explorer - and I shouldn't have.

I was looking at my desktop and I saw the master show desktop icon
there and for some stupid reason i just dropped it into the recycle
bin and threw it away completely...
Is there any way I can get it back?

I have 6 avi files that used to play on my computer but now they won't.  I
get messages that I need a codec and a driver.  How do I find these for avi
files and what else is there I should do.
