The resolution "slide bar" won't move!
In other words, we can't increase the resolution and it says it's on the
"default monitor" settings.
This started yesterday when after switching the computer off it restarted

HelpAssistant and Search have been disabled on my laptop. I believe I may

I use windows XP to login to my work computer from home, using my
company's laptop.
The process of scrolling is extremely slow.  If I press an arrow to go
downwards, I see a response about 7 seconds later or so.

Even though I applied KB 921883 daylight savings patches to all machines in
my network, I've got several that keep reverting back an hour.
There's nothing obvious in the event viewer for any of these machines, virus
software is up to date, all servers in sync with the correct time ...

In the last month XP Pro boots extremely slow. I have done the following
to remedy it.
1. Ran Spywear scans using all the recommended software and nothing was
found.
