At startup, the desktop appears, I choose the user and it begins loading
settings, but the only thing that appears is the desktop background.  No
taskbar or desktop icons.  Haven't loaded any new software, this just started

Windows XP Home announces a CMOS checksum error when I boot up, tells me
that defaults are loaded and to press F1.   This gets me on OK but how can I
