gI went to see a friend's computer today because he had a curious few
problems. Windows Search window does not appear when he clciks on Search. If
he tries to access Run, that doesn't come up either. His Avast anti-virus
throws up a message on startup saying that it cannot run ...

Help!! I have had  no problems like this before. I am trying to run a CD i
have run before - i keep getting the message - the windows installer service
could not be accessed. What can I do? When i try to run my Adobe Reader as

I've been tidying up my Startup Menu and must have removed something
incorrectly. When I try to log on by clicking on my username it starts off
correctly by getting my settings then says it is saving my settings and

I recently updated XP Home from SP1 to SP2, and installed IE 7.0 and
Windows Defender.  Everything seemed to be working normal.  I left the
computer on to autoupdate.  When I got the next morning, I was

I was restoring my system to a previous date. At the end of the restore it

Excel 2003 started malfunctioning under my Admin User Account - (ie., under
the Tools menu the Options dialog box doesn't open).  When I switch to
another Admin or Limited Account, it works fine.  Thus I suspect it is a User
Account setting problem!.  Any idea on how to fix this?

I have a Dell D600 that has a broken screen such that only the bottom 3/4 of

Only after starting my computer,   programs such as Word, Excel, Mailwasher
and Explorer the response time for prorams to materialise is some times more

im trying to play a cd/dvd and the drive just isnt working. When i go into
mycomputer to play it the drive isnt there. I have went through the
troubleshooting in the device manager. Tried uninstalling then reinstalling
but still the error message is " windows cannot load device ...
