I have a hand-me-up, "learning" laptop that started out with Windows
ME then got the XP Pro Upgrade (purchased in the box so licensing
isn't an issue).  For several months the laptop served me well, and I
have learned enough to feel comfortable taking this *good* XP machine

I have reinstalled WinXP Pro SP2 on a conputer.  I am having the same
problem that initiated the reinstall:  Downloads are impossiable.
    This problem started when IE7 was installed.
    Under Internet Options in Control Panel,  it is impossiable to change

For no explained reason my shut down hangs with "saving personal settings"
and my bootup hangs with "svchost.exe application error."
I have restored to a previous day but but that has not fixed the problem.
Would like some thoughts about how to approach a solution to this.

When I open "My Computer" and click on a drive it opens the search
window.  When I right click on a drive, Search is first, and Open is
second.  How can I reverse the order, so the drive will open and show
directories.

We had Roller Coaster Tycoon Deluxe on our computer.  The disk has to be in
to play and the kids scratched it to where it wouldn't read.  I got a new

Short of stopping automatic updates completely, how do I stop MS from
setting my defaults to Microsoft Office Outlook and IE? I have it set to FF2
and Outlook Express, but whenever XP does it's automatic updates(where it
doesnt even ask me, then restarts on its own in the middle ...

This is for a system running XP Home and is part of a home network.
A while ago the hard drive crashed and it was restored using the vendor's
restore disk.
Now when starting up, there is a request to "log on to windows".

Clean up has quit finding any files to clean up. Everytime I run it I get a
blank window where the list of types of files to clean were listed.
I have been using Perfect Disk to defragment. I don't know if that's a
