Currently, I have a Powerdown issue, everytime i try to restart or shutdown,

When i click within a program that runs on xp, for example Mediamonkey

a user logs in and get greeted with explorer can not initialize or something
like that right after entering password.
after the msg window is closed,, eventually the usual xp desktop scenery
shows up minus taskbar, and desktop icons.  the windows starts a lot of disk
