In-laws have a Compaq Presario with both DVD-ROM and CD-RW drives. Both

My add or remove programs in control panel will not work. When I highlight a
particular program it can not be removed. There is just a computer symbol
next to the program and no area "click to remove"
What happened? How can I fix it?

Ok here goes, I had to install Xp on a formatted hard drive now windows does
not seem to recognize my ram.  It appears in Dos and every program I use to
scan my computer but Xp only shows me the paging file.  I used a program from

When viewing some videos - usually .avi s I get a message that Windows
Explorer has encountered a problem and has to close. I looked at the
Error Signature and the lengthy Error Report Contents but it is all
gibberish to me.

How do I tell what drivers are currently loaded?

all of a sudden I cannot open Unable to open Add or Remove Programs in the
Control Panel.  In fact a number of of items fail to open, such as:
Add Hardware
Mouse

I have a program on my notebook which I can find via C-Program
Files-Cyberlink and can find the executable to start the program. When I go
to Start-All Programs and mouse over the program, it shows as "empty" and
clicking does nothing.  Perhaps related to this is Start-All
