My cd player on my hp A210n loads but will play anything, device manager says

For some reason when I run (any) programs including bootup, a command prompt
box opens up on the screen.
I know that the prompt is DOS, but do not know why the system has decided to
run cmd.exe; previously i installed a program which ran on Win 95, with no

I had to reformat and re-install my XP sp2 on my desktop...generic computer.
Device Manager shows Network adapters: 1394 Net adapter, that's all...but
right under this it lists Other devices: Ethernet controller "Yellow ?"

Have been "cleaning up" my hard drive recently, trying remove old programs
and printer drivers for printers I no longer own. Now with start up I have
the message :RUNDLL...C:WINDOWS\System32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3\LXBDtime.dll
module cannot be found. I'm guessing this is related ...

Hi, I have a problem with one Windows XP Client. I can't install any Windows
Updates. Downloading is OK but installation is failed. Let me post part of

I have a user who set up offline folders a while ago. Soon after his network
folders were deleted, but he never resynced his files and kept working on his
local copy of his offline files.  Whilst working away from the office, his

Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP (KB937143) will not install17 Aug 2007 18:09 GMT1
I can't install this security update. I downloaded it with six other
updates, which have installed although I needed to deselect this update
in order to install four of them. I've tried uninstalling and
reinstalling the Windows installer. Is there anything else I can try,

Sp2 has been downloaded from MS site. Trying to install
the update produces the following error:
    Service Pack 2 Setup error
    Unable to read from or write to the database

OK, this is EXACTLY what happens when I turn on my computer.
1. It will show the Dell start up screen then continue on to the Windows XP
starting screen like it always has.
2. It will show the different profiles.
