In the bottom right corner of the task bar is the red shield which looks
like the one associated with the Windows Automatic Update.  However when it
is selected it takes you to a site called Spydefender Pro.com
Does anyone know how to get rid of this?

Here is the story.
Bought an HP Pavilion a6009n desk top with Vista.  Reformatted and installed
XP Pro.
The mother board is an Asus M2N69-LA with NVIDIA GeForce6150SE nForce 430

I am trying to do a clean install of XP Home on a P4 2.8 Ghz with 512 MBRAM
and a 40GB Seagate HD.  Very early in the install process, before the option
to install or repair, the process stalls with the message:
“ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded    the error code is 7”

I downloaded the latest "critical" updates from MS, and suddenly IE started
crashing, during ebay searches.  I got a funny message asking me to approve
the loading of a supposedly "trusted" site.  After I went into MS's list of
trusted sites and removed that address, IE worked ...

I am running Windows Xp on a 6 year old Gateway computer.  This morning I
used the computer and everything was okay.  My system has been a bit
sluggish.  Just figured I needed to do some housekeeping that I have not had

Some of the system files on my wife's laptop is corrupted, XP won't
start at all, not even in safe mode or command prompt. The only way

the Ctrl key down while I click on the shutdown or restart button. This has

I used to be able to save ebay pages to my hard drive, in spite of the fact
that their file names (or directory path names) severely exceed Windows'
upper limit.  Unfortunately, the day came when that useful feature didn't
work any longer, and now it's been maybe about a year ...

I'm running XP Pro SP 2 on an AMD Duron machine.  The folder view settings are
not remembered, such as list view, thumbnails, etc.  I do have the "remember
folder settings" option checked.

I renewed my McAfee software and it will not install because of incompatible
programs-Aluria LiteScanner.  I removed it using the add/remove software
under control panel, but it still shows up.  I then used the %temp% and found
it under that, but it will not let me delete 2 files ...

I am unable to highlight/click on the desktop display properties to change
the wallpaper of my desktop. Any suggestions of what may be causing this and
