I am at my wit's end on this problem.  I cannot install some of the security
patches and other software because windows installer 3.1 is broken on my
Windows XP Pro SP2 machine.  I searched the web and consulted the knowledge

My display changes from Windows Classic Style
to Windows XP Style everytime I boot up.  I reset it and
it still changes the next time I turn on the PC.

OK, here's the problem:
Inlaws PC motherboard fried. They bought a new PC with XP Pro (same as prior
PC). Original PC had 3 user accounts. One (dads) was password
protected/admin.

I'm missing file CS561404.CAB for the Word Office Assistant.  I'm missing

My wife's PC (running Windows XP Home Edition 2002, SP2) was used heavily by
our grown children and their spouses over the holidays, with a number of
social networking downloads installed. Now sometimes when we direct it to
shut down, it restarts instead.

Does anyone know how to get rid of all the unused items in "Startup"
of the XP "System Configuration Utility"?  Most of them are duplicates
and triplicates of programs that I've had to stop at one time and then
restart using msconfig.

I saved a file by accident in Temp files, and so I went to look for it,
remembering that it would be a "hidden" file.  I stumbled on C:\Documents and
Settings, and clicked View and Customize This Folder.  There I found

I can send and receive using Hotmail.
I can receive using Outlook Express.
I cannot send using outlook express.

At one time, if you right click on a file with a suffix
that does not have an association, you would get "open with".
I seem to have lost it.
