a friend has a computer that has windows xp professional and i was told to uninstall the modem. and restart the computer and let the computer recognize the modem but it does not recognize it what could be wrong

My Tosiba Satellite laptop with Windows XP Home occasionally goes into a fit and then shutsdown! I haven't been able to do a Virus scan with Trend Micro Pc-cillin for awhile as it laptop shutsdown during scan.

The following used to work on a desktop machine: connect an audio feed to the external mic port, and then listen to that feed on the external speaker port. This allows me to hear system beeps as well as music on the same speaker (or headphone).

I am trying to move files and settings from an old Windows ME computer with no ethernet adapter to a new XP box with ethernet and USB ports but no serial port. Both have USB ports. Can I do transfer the files and settings using a CD? Both boxes do have CDs.

I have a laptop that is not bootable any more. I have tried safe mode, safe mode command prompt and also last known good configuration but it fails with blue screen. I get Windows XP screen (try to boot) but after a minute or so it fails

I notice, in a number of places, where it is alluded to Windows XP having a disk mirroring program built in. NT has mirroring from Drive 0 to drive1, I think. Does XP? Andie Z

I have a hard drive I don't use much. how do I get it shutdown when not in use. I forget where I specify shutdown down a drive after a period of inactivity.. could not find it power option, nor devmgmt.msc
