I am trying to do a full recovery on my pc. I run Windows Xp. It loads to the
full recovery and then before it gets to the menu(for full destruction) it
comes up with a blue screen that says can't load file   \system
root\system32\config\security

I have too many Gremlins running around and want to repair XP.
I have slipstreamed SP2 and have used this CD before, but...
this time my drives are on a PCI card IDE interface and Setup does not
find the drives so I can do the re-load/repair.

One on of my two office PCs, both running Windows XP professional, when I
left-click on a file in an inactive but open folder, the file is highlighted
but the window does not become active at the same time. Therefore, when I
copy and paste, the previously-selected file is used ...

The connections settings in IE 7.6, in XP PRO SP2, do not "stick."
I am using a proprietary dialer and do not want the windows native dialer to
open. I have set the "never dial a connection" radio button on the
connections tab, but it gets reset after I use the proprietary dialer, ...

I want to "zap" my machine and reformat the hard drive so I can clean things
up.  However, I have one program on my hard drive that I don't want to lose,
as the installation disk is lost.  
Do you know if this program will transfer in full when the F.A.S.T.wiz is

A small, probably a silly issue. But I cannot resolve this.
My computer time is off by 1hr - obviously the DST changes have caused this
issue.
In my date/time settings:

I played some on-line MIDI files today, the noticed later that the
Volume Control is missing from the Systray. I opened Control Panel ->
Sounds and Audio Devices and tried to reactivate the Systray Volume
Control but got an error message saying that sndvol32.exe was not

my friend is running XP Home (French) and has a problem with scrollbars.
She has 4 users set up with their own seesions but it seems the problem
occurs in all sessions.  When they open IE or any window where the contents
does not fit the open window the right scroll bar scrolls ...

Computer boots up to a blank screen; will boot in safe mode. The system
restore doesn't work. Sometimes the boot with network works, but sometimes
not or network will stop working in IE. I can't get a normal boot.

I made a custom pc about 2 years ago and installed an OEM version of
XP Professional.  Rescently my mobo died and I had to replace it.
When I started it I did a repair install of windows and everything
worked fine and it said I had 3 days to activate windows and when I
real slow shutdown -- usual dosen't work17 Mar 2008 03:24 GMT8
    I have a perplexing shutdown problem on a customer's
XP-Pro-SP2 machine.  I have already tried the usual fixes
at 'SHUTDOWN WORKS, BUT IT’S REAL SLOW":
