As the title suggests basically. I cant shutdown my system through the start bar or through the task manager options. I always have to hold the button on the front of the tower to shut down.

Something happened last night to my system such that I think some system files became corrupted. I am finally able to boot up, but not without some "barking" messages. Anyone know of a utility I can run that will check and see which files are damaged? Any help appreciated.

XP Pro, SP2. The "Welcome to System Restore" window will not appear. Error message instead. After clicking the OK button, it goes directly to the "System Restore Settings" link and everything inside that window is grayed-out (disabled).

I'm having trouble with uploads to web sites on my Windows XP SP2 machine. I basically can't upload any files in in a web request. If I try going to a bandwidth test page, it does the download test fine, but then won't even complete the upload test. I can't send emails

I have a laptop with netgear router and adapter -works great in house. I've heard it will work in airports and cafes by picking up a 'hot spot ' signal. Is this worth trying? Seems odd if I don't have the particular card i.e.

I was using XP home edition (with IE.7) but needed to upgrade as I wanted to set up remote access. I paid a fortune for the XP Professional upgrade software, and used the quick upgrade as described in the booklet.

I have a laptop that suddenly wouldn't boot. A winlogon.exe message appears sometime after the Windows logo appears, and the system then restarts. The winlogon.exe message is "the application failed to start because SHLWAPI.DLL was not found. ..."

when I try to print a document from "document image writer" in the file/print pull-down, that option does not come up on the pull-down .... can I somehow (re)install this option? I am using XP. THanks, Brian
