I don't know a lot about video files/formats, so I'd appreciate suggestions. When converting a DVD to another video format, several options are available. I wonder which would prove to be the most compact and which would be the easiest to manage, edit and if possible resize.

trying to capture video from a hitachi 8mm analog. Camera out put cord is good (I have audio & video when connected to TV), but when I connect to video capture device (HP Media Center PC) I get video, but no evidence of audio
