I am backing up images (1 per second) from a security camera, to a
directory on a PC. However, after a couple of days I am having a hard
time accessing such large numbers of files - its not the amount of
data its the number of files that is the problem.

When I click START, SHUTDOWN and click the SHUTDOWN or RESTART button the
screen flashes like it's going to shutdown but nothing happens. I've tried
using the mouse, keyboard and touchpad but nothing happens. I end up having
to use the Power On/Off to shut it down. I'm using HP ...

windows xp will shut down with error message a problem has occurred and
windows will shut down.  I do not lose the program that i am working on but
windows will shut down.

Using task Manager Processes I found these two unusual entries.
1. WUSB54GC.exe 185344k is using far more virtual memory then anything
else. The next highest is WINWORD with 13,840 K
2.HalReader.exe is using 95 CPU on a regular basis.

Temporary Internet Files & Cookies do not appear in respective folders.
I perform clean up's regularly and when going to folders for cookies and
temp internet files there's nothing there.
Where are they?

When I insert a blank disc in my DVD burner, my system crashes and I get an
error message "STOP: 0x0000008E (0xc0000005, 0x806EE753, [see below],
0x00000000)"  The only change to the message is to the third set of numbers
within the brackets which reads, variously, 0xB928A4cc or ...

Deleting even a small file takes several minutes.  The recycle bin is empty.  
This is not a right-click context handler issue.  Deletes are slow regardless
of the method by which file(s) or folder(s) are deleted.
Windows Explorer seems to lock up and even attempting to kill it ...

I am seeing this baloon popup intermittently to very often, seemingly

I'm running WinXp Home Sp2 on a Dell I2500.  On a regular basis, in the
middle of some operation (in the latest case it was a Symantec fix for
appsvc32.exe problems) my system will drop out of DSL mode and pop-up a

Since a while there is a subtle issue that has been bothering me. I'm

I believe I have it clean but when I click on Start and Search - the box
pops up but it is blank.- except for the little dog - I can't search for
