I am trying to open a program that uses Adeobe Shockwave but when I try to
launch it the prgoram won't start.  What do I need?

MS article # 900871 advises creating folders with names i.e..: C:\XPCD\i386,
.....etc
However the computer doesn't allow using in naming the colon, backslash etc.
What gives, any idea how to follow the instructions?

I am using windows XP, and I an trying to get the file open and save as
dialogs to use the current directory instead of "My Documents" or the
saved directory from last time.
For example, in (much) older windows I could lauch notepad fron the

I can't launch any program that requires Shockwave or Flash and I DO have
these programs installed on my computer.  Is there something else that maybe

My submission refers to MS article 900871 that instructs how to download and
integrate XP SP2 NETWORK installation package to earlier version of XP-es.
I have arrived to this site, hoping to get my missing i386 folder integrated
with XP SP2 on my computer running XP pro SP2.

I rename my 'hosts' file as 'oldhosts" and reboot the pc and I can go to the
internet. However, when I do a search for "hosts" file, the result does not
show this file. Isn't this file is suppose to be regenerated itself?
Also the user name been changed after I use the pc to scan ...

Every once in a while I get an IE Overlay on the contents of the CD. The
folders and files are there but there's also an Internet Explorer "overlay"
in the lower right hand corner. All my associations are fine. What is
causing this and how do I fix it, does anyone know?

I was examining the control  panel of my new PC( albeit refurbished)
and found out that there is nothing in the administrative tools
section.
