I have an XP computer about two years old. For the last several months it's behaved in a very annoying way: Every second or so, things which should be moving smoothly stop briefly, then continue. These things include:

My laptop has developed a habit of failing to copy and paste. No error, no beep, just nothing happens when I paste. Happens across all apps, even notepad. Windows XP SP2. Office 2002.

I sometimes discover that the task bar which is normally at the bottom of the screen has disappeared. The only way I have found to restore it is to re-boot. Is there a more direct way?

There were 2 unknown profiles on my computer (XP SP2) and when one of them was accidentally deleted all of the information on my real/ recognised profile disappeared (my documents, favourites etc). Much like the current profile had been reset. I don't seem able to find the ...

can someone please advise of a fix? when I open add remove hardware, it lists 3 items at the top, then the screen goes black with a white stripe in the middle until almost at the bottom, then it lists the remaining items.

A Windows XP/wSP1 is needed to create a BartPE CD. My installation disk is a Toshiba Recovery and Application/Drivers DVD Satellite M50/M55 series. How can I check this disk, to see if it has already SP1 on it?

I have an icon in the taskbar that I set to "Always show". However as soon as I reboot I find it's been reset to "Hide when inactive". Other icons stay set to the "Always show" mode after a reboot, and there's nothing unusual about this one that I'm aware of. Any ideas?
