Both my desktop and laptop machines are fully updated with XP update files
but recently they have both started experiencing the same problem.
Frequently, everything freezes for a second or two before resuming as if
nothing has happened. Is this something to do with service pack 3?

On 4/22/08, Microsoft showed the update gold shield telling us to
download/install and update. I proceeded to use Microsoft Update and the
system scanned our laptop Acer Aspire AMD base.
After a long wait it inform us that we had the SP3 to be installed.
System instability after loading WinXP SP316 May 2008 21:07 GMT1
My system has become unstable after loading SP3. Applications will work for a
while, then lock up.  Ofter shutdown will not complete and I have to force
power off to reboot.

When I try to install SP3 I get the following   AppPatch/drvmain.sdb
is open or in use by another program.
I cannot get by this message.  I have disable NAC autoprotect, removed
windows defenderl

Does anyone have any suggestions on whether GDiVX1.9.9.2.exe is a virus or not?
I receive following messages when I scan through Symantec online Anti-Virus
C:\WINDOWS\system32\r_server.exe is infected with Remacc.Radmin  
C:\Documents and Settings\user\My Documents\上手文件夾\GDiVX1.9.9 ...

When I try to run NTBackup from a command line I see a
window which says "Looking for Backup Devices..." which
closes after a few seconds but I then see no indication
that NTBackup is running.

I have a usb device.  I am trying to get software to work for it, but the
software is asking which com# port device is on.  How do I get this to work?

When I select or hover over an Icon on the desktop it is highlighted.
If I open a program from an Icon on the desktop, then close it, the
icon is no longer highlighted. On my other two XP machines it is, and

I've just upgraded 20 XP Home systems to XP Pro using the upgrade, not the
full version, and now anytime I try to access Windows functions that require
validation (i.e. Windows Updates, etc...), it failes to validate as a
genuine product.  I ordered these upgrade licenses ...

When I tried to install XP SP3, I got an error message: "Service Pack 3
Setup has been canceled because XP SP3 cannot be installed over RDP 6.0 MUI
PACK (Update for Windows XP (KB925877)). Before you can continue, you must
uninstall KB925877." Then I tried to uninstall KB925877 ...

I JUST bought a new system and while installing xp - i hit the powe
cord.
now when i boot up (even with the cd in the drive) it say

Can svchost.exe be a virus? I have it only recently running several
instances at once sometimes using 50% of CPU power. My CA Vet virus checker
nor spybot S&D report any problem, please assist! Thanks.

I want a clean  reinstall of XP professional. Do I have to repartition my
harddrive or is it enough to just format the partition I want the OS to
reside? There are two partitions on my harddrive c: and d:
