If I browse to an I would like to use for a desktop image it will not
display in the Display Properties dialog box nor will it display on the

I have started up my laptop with windows xp but after the windows load screen
it turns black and just sits there. I attempted to restart in safe mode but i
did the same thing only the black screen had "safe mode" in all corners.

The last few days my main volume is always set to  minimum (zero) when the
computer is rebooted.  I can change the setting, reboot and it is back to
zero.  How can I return to the former behavior where reboots did not change
the current setting?

Thanks for your response.  Where do I see what browser it is?  I think its

Also where do I look for the add-in's?

Occasionally I found in various directories hidden files called "desktop.ini".
What is the purpose of them ?
Can it be that they are created from other computers (because the folder is a shared folder) ?
Are they similar to "thumbs.db" files ?
